I have lived in L.A. for 19 years. Crime is horrible, gangs are rampant (yes, even in Sherman Oaks. read the gang graffiti on any of the many construction projects). Gangs number 80,000 in L.A. Cops number 10,000. Total. That includes off duty, desk clerks etc. Do the math. There is massive illegal immigration. Nobody respects the English language. If you complain about it you are considered racist.I'm leaving in September and will be happy to do so.

My wife and I have lived in Northeast Los Angeles for twenty years. We did have a car stolen about 10 years ago- it wasn't in the garage and the street was not well-lit, we have since gotten a motion-sensitive light. As far as gangs, nothing. Funny thing is the media keeps telling us we are surrounded by gangs. We aren't the kind of people who stay at home per se: we shop on North Figueroa, take the train into town, etc so it isn't like we aren't out there. I wouldn't have imagined problems like that in Sherman Oaks.
