Heading to L.A. to scout for a possible spot to open a record shop. Looking for neighborhoods with lots of shops aimed toward young-ish artists/musicians/creatives. I've heard I should check out Silver Lake/Echo Park area. Can anyone suggest other hoods (or elaborate on Silver Lake/Echo Park)? Also, could you please let me know if there is a specific strip or street to check out in the area you suggest? THANKS!!

from what i've heard, silver lake already has plenty of record stores. echo park may be a better option, but you also have to remember that amoeba isn't too far away in hollywood. you may consider a westside location around venice. i have a friend living in venice who drives to hollywood, long beach, or orange county to buy his vinyl.

Venice is in dire need of a record store. I don't think there are ANY record stores on the far west side anymore.

Silver Lake and Echo Park are too close to Amoeba to be able to compete.

Agreed, but the rents will be a killer on the Westside.

Very true, but isn't Echo Park a little more affordable?

Yeah, we are planning to visit all those places. Glad I'm on the right track at least. I had heard Venice rent would be outrageous, but I guess if you had plenty of shoppers... We are staying in Silver Lake for a few days then Venice Beach for a couple. Has anyone been to the Fairfax Area? I've heard great things about Family and Cinefamily. Maybe that's really too close to Amoeba. We do currently have a shop in a bigger city close-ish (5 minute drive/10 minute walk) to a shop that was very well known/respected and we are seriously thriving. Being more genre specific than they are has really helped us make a name for ourselves. Really looking forward to our visit. Please keep the ideas coming.
