Hi there,

I am a 23 year old college grad that has lived in NYC for the past few years (Greenpoint, Brooklyn and now in Astoria, Queens) with my boyfriend. We are getting ready to move to Los Angeles for several reasons. First, we are both actors and want to work in the film/tv industry. Secondly, my job is opening up a shop in LA and I am going to help set it up. Anyways, we are looking to live in an area that is not too far away from Beverly Hills (my job's location), walking distance to some shops and restaurants/bars, and is safe. Any ideas? We also love the beach and possibly like to have a beachy feel to our area. So far we have been looking mostly at the west la/west hollywood area. We are looking to pay $800-1300/month. Any advice would be appreciated!!

Thanks so much and can't wait to get out there!

Expect to pay $1300 or a little more in those areas. Check out Hollywood...alot better than it used to be and provides all the things you want. Just make sure you see the area first, or be totally sure because Hollywood still has some seedy areas...but overall, it's pretty safe.

I doubt you will find anything under 1200 in that area. You pay for what you get, and that area is pretty much all nice. If you can spend closer to 1400 or 1500, you can probably get something really nice, close to work

You were on target until you said how much you wanted to pay for rent. If you can live in one bedroom, Knox is right, you're low end will be around $1500. The West Hollywood/West LA areas are among the most expensive in the city. But they are close to your job and the beach, esp WLA.
