later this week i will start working in foothill ranch/irvine, I will be commuting from la mirada/buena park area, most likely going south on the 5 the whole way. i know there will be traffic but i am wondering how much. i will not be carpooling, and need to be at work at 7 30, most other days 8am. how bad will the traffic be?

You can use maps.google.com and look at the traffic feature, changing the day and time-of-day. Very cool tool.

Is it Foothill Ranch or Irvine? I ask because Foothill Ranch can be tough to get to, depending on the location.

I've looked at that map with traffic and it seems to underestimate traffic conditions. I've even been on Google maps on my phone while in the car, been at a dead stop in traffic and the map showed green. I wonder where they get their data.

My understanding is that the google maps one is average, rather than live data.

The sigalert website is live, by contrast.

No, I mean even Google's live traffic seems to be wrong a lot of the time. I can refresh the map on my phone and it does change but its often wrong.
