So yeah, if the original poster wants to work in fashion, I'd suggest that he try London or Paris.

Yeah, but he wants to work in L.A. and work his way up. L.A. you know has ties in the fashion industry as well. (West Coast fashion)

I do understand that in order to live and work in the USA i need a visa and work permit and all that and I would look into that nearer the time. It's not like I'm wanting to move next year, I would prefer to wait until I'm in my twenties as I feel I'd be maturer by then and be able to deal with living that far away from home. For now I'm just looking for advice on housing and such. Also refering to me as 'he'? I'm a girl!! lol

Studio apartments start at around $800/month here and those are usually less than 500 sq ft and not so nice.

Los Angeles is very expensive. You might want to find some sort of exchange program to study on a university campus instead. Maybe they have that for the fashion place...I'm not sure.

Helllooooooooooooo from a fellow Dundonian Only Im in Blairgowrie just now Looking to relocate to the states this year though, all going well.

Thought Id put in my tuppence worth I'd say before you start thinking about anything to do with housing etc etc, it would be a good idea to look at all the visa options and requirements for entry as your starting point and equipping yourself with the appropriate qualifications etc that will put you in a good position to be considered for entry to live and work in US.

It is indeed a nightmare getting into the USA (and rightly so quite frankly..I dont believe it should be easy to get into ANY country!). I lived and worked in Florida previously and it was a real palava getting an H1B visa (temporary work permit). That was 15 years ago, and if I thought it was hard then, its a lot harder now!

I have friends who are living just 20 mins outside LA from UK and they love it out there, but don't have two pennies to rub together as it really is SO expensive! They are paying $2700 a month to rent a tiny 3 bed house..I nearly fell over when I learned that!

Good luck in fulfilling your dreams
