How difficult will it be to get an place in LA in 2009? (i'm planning a August move)

How greatly have the ex-homeowners, incoming newlyweds, college students, and new transplants effected the availability of apartments?

I don't see it as getting any harder to rent. The housing market actually is slowly turning around here. There will always be places to rent depending on any number of variables: your budget, location, credit score etc...

If you have the cash and the credit score you shouldn't have any problems. There's tons of open apartments here.

It's not hard to rent... It IS hard to find a place in decent shape that doesn't cost a fortune. You have to really do your homework and look all day.

Seriously. We came for a weekend and spent Friday afternoon through Monday morning looking; we found a great place, but we also found a lot of really worn-down apartments and places that were way out of our budget (and sometimes really worn-down and expensive apartments ) . The next time I have to do something like that, I'll take a few days during the week - I thought we would be able to find lots of open houses on the weekend, since people work during the week, but it was hard to get a hold of people when it wasn't Saturday afternoon. We had a lot more success on Monday morning.
