Hi everyone,

I am relocating from the east side of Chicago to the L.A. area. Culver City is my first choice to reside, but the rent is out of my budget, which is 1300 for a 2br. I have a few family members that live in Culver City, Compton, Riverside. Most of them reside in the city of L.A.(excuse me if this is the wrong term). I would like some suggestions on a nice area. I'm a single AA mother. My daughter is 5yrs of age. I am a city girl and would like to be close to Shppoing areas, grocery stores, good schools and the express way. Don't want to be too far from family. I am thinking of Inglewood. Is Inglewood a nice area to live?

The Morningside Park area of Inglewood is very nice. Also South Inglewood, around Imperial and Crenshaw isn't too bad.

You might want to look into Lawndale as well. There is a part of Lawndale directly adjacent to the South Bay Galleria (Redondo Beach). That area is fine as it leads into the beach cities. You have lots of shopping, restaurant and grocery store options. Apartments are typically the same, but the price is much better than having a Redondo or Hermosa address. It is only minutes away from the 405 which means it's just a short drive to Culver City.

Good luck with the move --- I am heavily contemplating moving back to L.A. myself.

Personally, I wouldnt move from the Eastside of Chicago to LA. The Eastside has great archecture and alot of greystone apartments. Los Angeles look so suburban compared to the Eastside of Chicago, you could just move to suburban Chicago for cheap and get the same thing.

there is no real east side of Chicago, just north side, south side, west side, and the lake. There is a neighborhood in the south side called Eastside, however.
