Hey all,
So I'll be graduating from college in May and am hellbent on moving to LA over the summer. I can manage a few trips out before the move but don't have time to get an overall feel for the entire area before I look for a place. I am heading to LA to be an actress or do something in the entertainment field so I need to be within a reasonable commute to the major studios and such. I'm ideally looking for someplace safe, and where I could pay around 800 per person if I had a roommate in a 2 bedroom. Any ideas? Also anyone have ideas on how to find a roommate? Craigslist seems to all be random crash pads and I'm looking for something more long term. Thanks!

Many studios are scattered all over awful places like Burbank, etc

But many of the most powerful entertainment industry execs and titans (who actually own the damn studios) live and often work (and dine) in the BeverlyHills area....many ambitious hotties find a way to hang out at whichever bars/restaurants are frequented by most titans on a Mon-Th eve, not Fri/Sat when obese tourists/B&T crowd prevail...or on Sun eve when many Westsiders take their family to dinner at same restaurants

Do you know how many celebs live in Burbank or next door in Toluca Lake?

What is the relevance to the OP's question??

There are areas of North Hollywood that would suit you. Regarding your concern for safety, stay close to Chandler and you'll be fine. Plenty of folks in your situation -- affordable, accessible to Hollywood, great access to mass transit, etc.

Can't help you much on the roommate thing, but the NoHo Arts District (Lankershim and Magnolia, more or less) is a decent general area to keep you near studios and such, plus you'll be in range of public transit if you need it (subway system is safe and good, though in scope it's not New York or London by far.) I've become quite a schill for public transit this evening =D

The other benefit is that there are plenty of small theaters in North Hollywood to keep your chops up during down times and such. The thing is, most acting work is spread all over town depending on what you get into...on camera, television, voice, theatrical...but there is a decent concentration of work up in the Valley. Agreed with above about sticking near Chandler. Nice street without being too crazy.

Thanks everyone! I'll concentrate on that general area when I head out to LA to look for a place
