Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone might have any information on the Melrose Hollywood Hotel (formerly the Melrose Arms) at 5150-70 Melrose. I'm researching the building for a historic preservation project and would be interested in any information or recollections people have. Apparently the building has been around a while and has quite a history, so I'm hoping there's someone out there who knows some of it! Thanks in advance for your help!

Yes, I lived there for almost 9 years. It was known as Monte Cristo Island Apartments at the time I was there. All residents (40) were evicted in late 2007 for an unexplained reason. It is a nice building with a good location. Edmon's Furniture may still occupy the ground level. They make handcrafted mantles and fixtures and so forth.

I believe the building was built in 1918. It has been somewhat restored over the last several years but mostly just the facade (griffins, gargoyles etc.) with lots of gold leafing being put on at one point.
