My union is my place of work which is So cal. All over So Cal and will constantly change. Downtown for a month, Malibu for 2 months ect. Jersey turnpike is no happy fest either but at least it moves faster until there is an accident. I just hate the hell out of these north east winters! Hate it! Plus Im single and I want to be out and about more. Outdoor activities almost stop here. Out there you have mountain biking and just people are generally out. Here in the winter you can go to a bar, online dating, stores blah blah blah. Everyone says I should be scared of earthquakes too but that only lasts so many minutes. Here we are garuanteed a long and dreary suck butt winter. Jersey. Who the hell wants to live in this ugly ass state their whole life? Not me. 40 years is enough.

Thousand Oaks is usually ranked one of the safest cities in the country for its size. Unfortunately it's all of the way at the end of the metro area. It's not even in LA county. If you have to travel all over you will live out of your car. The price that you pay.

I live in Carson and while I doubt that you'd want to move here, Torrance is a good choice. Fairly centrally located and fairly cheap with good schools. I had a 2 BR for $1,000 in Torrance. Unfortunately that was 17 years ago. I'm guessing that it's double that now.

no where is perfect I want you to love living in SoCal! I want you not to make the mistake that so many people make and say who the hel wants to spend there whole time in traffic on the freeway! NJ is definately no picknick I know first hand! The difference is that your distances will be much greater many more lanes on the freeways sometimes 8 each way and many more of them! I would find out what my general area is and try to find a good spot somewhat centrally located! LA can be a wonderful place for you if you make it so! Can't beat cali weather. I wish you the best on your new adventure!

When you say SoCal, do you mean the LA Basin, LA County, or Santa Barbara to Palm Springs and San Diego? There are a lot of great places somewhat central to each area that might fit your budget.

Is there a centralized location you'll need to report to before heading off to work?

What's the max you're willing to pay on a 2BR (should be higher than $1500 since that gets you a studio apartment in the best L.A. neighborhoods).
