Hi,

We were wondering if the valley plaza redo was still going to happen. Last I heard was that Snyder had bought up some properties and planning condos a theater, new park and mega mall. I can't find any current information, so the mall where Gold's Gym is is still there but nothing else. Sizzlers there and the Sears. That new monstrosity school is open but that's it.

What gives? I love Burbank, but would like some new shops in that valley area.

Probably nothing going on. I Googled "Valley Plaza development", and the most recent news was from almost a year ago, and it was a .pdf of the proposal. That's it. I would imagine that this project is on hold now, anyway. With the recession deepening, what developer would want to spend millions of dollars on a huge retail project?

If you go to the J.H. Snyder website, it shows a date of mid - 2009. I'm excited about the project too. It would give me less reason to drive all the way to Burbank. NoHo is right in my neighborhood.

Final approval expected on North Hollywood redevelopment plan - Los Angeles Times

Finally, Valley Plaza might be coming to fruition. If you drive to Valley Plaza today, it looks awful with all the boarded up windows. Any improvements to this area are very much needed. I'm glad more community members are jumping on board, at least with the commercial/retail aspect.

I can't wait for this development to be completed with the potential of a Macy's, Target, 16-Plex theater, and discount electronics retailer. I'll be there everyday. I want to keep my tax dollars where I live, rather than having to give all my money to nearby Burbank.

With so many stores closing down, it's not the ideal time to roll out new malls.

I respectfully disagree LALady. Anything is better than leaving that area to rot further. It's really sad to see all of the boarded up stores. With the potential to add construction jobs and permanent jobs, this is definitely a much needed change. Not only that, Valley Plaza used to be one of the top places to be if you look at the history of VP. They are simply bringing it back to its full potential, basically re-opening stores that have left and making it more desirable for new business.

Haven't driven by recently. Didn't realize there are lots of boarded up stores.
