Here's a link to LBPD's website. Check out the crime stats yourself.

It is a good site.

premeirsoccerfan, melissadata assigns a value to each city based on crime statistics. Lower is better.

Long Beach - 339
Cerritos - 393

And in reality it's worse for Cerritos than the above numbers show because the majority of crime in LB in located in the central and North areas.

I don't have any problem with Cerritos by the way. It's a decent enough place. I just think your characterization of Long Beach is unfair and at least by one unbiased report the numbers agree.

Of course, you are entitled to your opinion (as I am to mine). Apparently I have offended you by suggesting Cerritos over Long Beach. Sorry....

You haven't offended me because you suggested Cerritos over Long Beach. You have in my opinion mischaracterized Long Beach.

No worries. Stay safe.

I lived in Long Beach for 2 years to go to school at Cal State. If you can afford it, Belmont Shores/Heights is FANTASTIC! Stay far away from the downtown area...my MIL lives there and I am a nervous wreck every time I have the kids down there. The schools in that part of the city aren't very good either.

The neighborhoods around CSULB are good, but away from the apartment complexes. TONS of students in the apartment complexes...and they're loud, LOL. The neighborhoods in the Traffic Circle area are pretty cute, 50's style houses. I used to jog through the neighborhoods around there and always felt very safe, and I tend to be a paranoid person.

Lakewood, Cerritos, and Los Alamitos are all good too, as others mentioned. I did a long stint of observation in a kindergarten class in Lakewood and it was a very good school.
