My family is traveling by car from Phoenix, AZ on Friday, February 20th to Long Beach. MapQuest takes us from I-10W, CA-91, CA-55 and CA-22 to LB. Do I have to worry about Friday night rush hour? Should we try to get to LB by 3:00 p.m? When does it get really bad?

Thank you

I'd say rush hour in LA is from around 5:00am - 8:00pm or so. It may slow down for a few hours in the late morning but that's about it.

The 10 to the 710 or 605 shouldn't be bad if you get there before 5 or after 8.

10 W, 215 S, 91 W, then depending on which part of LB you will be going to, either 605 S or 710 S. The 22 is a bit more direct, but I don't like that freeway. As for traffic, you'll be going in the opposite direction for the most part. The 22 might jam up from those heading north out of OC toward LB, which is another reason to use the 91.

Check Sigalert.com - Personalized Traffic Reports right now (230PM in LA) and get a feel for those freeways. Check it several times during the day during the times you will be commuting.

The 22, even after all the construction improvements, is a parking lot during rush hour, especially around The Crush.

There's no easy way to get around LA during rush hour, unless you have infinite patience and don't mind surface streets.

I'd just stick to the 10 to the 605. 605 south isnt that bad and the carpool lane is usually quick even in traffic. the 91 can be a nightmare. the 22 isnt terrible, but near the 405 connector(it merges on the 405 before splitting off again for it's final run) it can get rough.

i dunno.. just try to get to your destination before 4pm and you'll be fine
