I will be attending FIDM in Fall'09.
I am doing their post degree option, so I'll only be attending for a year.

I grew up in San Marino (Around Pasadena), and my parents currently still live there, but the 40 mins/each way commute kills me.

I have been in Colorado for the past 5 years and have completely forgotten how bad LA traffic can be. If I was looking for a place in Glendale, how long would my commute be then?

Ideally, I would not want to live in the middle of downtown LA, but I also don't want to commute over 30 mins to get to class.

How safe is Mt. Washington at night?

Also, if you guys know of any good affordable apartments/townhomes, please let me know. $900/month is the max I'm willing to pay. TIA.

You'll need to find a roommate if you can only afford $900 per month and want less than a 30 minute commute.

I have lived in Mt Wash for over 10 years. It's a great place, and certainly safe at night. It is largely residential, but having two Gold Line stations makes it very convenient to downtown and lots of other places. Alot of USC medical students who study at County live in the area and cheap rents can be found.

MetLofts on 11th and Flower (across from the FIDM building) has Section 8 housing that they regularly lease to students. Check it out, you won't be disappointed.
