How bad is the fog?
Commute times/options to downtown? Good restaurants?

Thanks for any input

The fog can be bad. Know exactly where you're going.

Downtown Los Angeles? A long time. You need to take Crenshaw or Hawthorne all the way to the 405, which is about a 15 mile drive on surface streets.

There are good restaurants around the mall in Rolling Hills Estates or wherever it is.

The fog can be bad, but worse on the PVE side. But fog shouldn't really be part of your decision-making process. It's not foggy every day. The commute just to get off of the hill is horrible. If there were no other cars on the road and freeway, you would probably be looking at close to 45 minutes to downtown. Morning and evening travel, at the height of commute, would probably be around 90-mins. There are a few nice restaurants, but no more than a handful of them on the Hill.

I know palos verdes is stunning, it has incredible views and drives....but has it lost some of its appeal in the last 10 years, since so cal traffic has gotten so bad?

I imagine in the 80's, and early 90's it was much more appealing, since there was less traffic to LA, and you had the best of both worlds.
