Wow, this forum is really helpful in terms of gathering info about LA but from quite a few of the posts I have read, my image of LA has been somewhat dented.

My boyfriend and I are considering moving to LA from Paris. My boyfriend is French and I am British, and we would like to know how easy/difficult it is to get visas and jobs in LA? If anybody could shed some light on this, that would be great!

Also, any positive expat experiences would be really welcome I am keen on the Brentwood area, and any info on this area would also be appreciated.

Brentwood is a great area. PM FairWeatherGolfer ..she lives there.

Los Angeles is a large city with a diverse economy. Jobs are usually not a problem. Could you kindly provide us with the type of work you do, so that we could better provide you an answer?

Hi! Thanks for your response. I am actually a communication consultant, having moved into the profession after having been a journalist for several years in London. My boyfriend is in construction. I am aware there are several big PR agencies I can apply to but I am not so sure how my boyfriend would be fixed.

Do you know if there is a big expat community in LA/Brentwood?

Hi Amber Leigh,

Brentwood is really really nice, but really expensive. Lots of trees, people actually walk some and there are some beautiful houses, good schools, nice parks, great shopping and restaurants.

As for your boyfriend's work, many people are remodeling their homes right now -- especially in Brentwood LOL -- so I'm guessing he'll be able to get work.

Good luck

Hi,

Thanks again for your reply. One of my main worries is obtaining a visa in the USA. Do you know of any good websites I could check out in relation to this?

Thanks so much!
