What's the weather like in July/August/September? I know it's summer - how hot does it get, is it generally humid and muggy? Do nights become much cooler?

I'm trying to get an idea on what to pack...

August can get humid. Mostly dry heat through the summer though, depending on exact location anywhere up to 100-105, averages probably in the 80s. because the air isnt totally dry, there is usually a 20 degree swing in temps at night(at least my exp.), so an 80 degree day brings a 60 degree night.. 100 day 80 night.. etc

You need to be really specific about where you are going to.

The reason is because Woodland Hills can be 30 degrees higher than Malibu even though the two are separated by less than 20 miles. So it can be 70 degrees in Malibu and 100 in Woodland Hills. And that's a BIG difference!!

That depends on where in Los Angeles area you will be and where you are living now..If you are on the east coast or the south you will not find it humid at all, if you are from the north or south west you will. The temps can be from the mid 70s during the day on the coast to 100 and above in the IE. Normally regardless of where you are the nights do cool down.
