I don't have a car. My bike only gets me so far. Westwood in Los Angeles is such a great place. Century City, Beverly Hills & Santa Moncia are close by but a little far sometimes to travel to. Sometimes I rent a car from one of the car rental companies like Hertz. They used to have a weekend deal that made it reasonable. Now I have to rely on my bike to get around. Will there be public transportation worth while anytime soon.

Have you tried catching a bus? They run along the main streets, like Wilshire.

Yeah, honestly, why not a bus? Just remember to bring handi-wipes, or at least try not to touch any of the bus' hand rails.

The Rapid buses in LA are actually what other cities around America are trying to copy(including NYC)... I have little good to say about the regular buses in LA though

I have not owned a car since moving to Santa Monica in 2005. The Big Blue Bus system is excellent for getting to UCLA or to downtown from Santa Monica, but not good for other places. I keep hearing rumors about a west side subway line, but that will take ten to twenty years. The Dash system is great, but the regular metro buses and the Big Blue Buses that only run every twenty minutes are horrible and have made me decide to buy a scooter. I believe in public transportation, but my new commute (south Santa Monica to Loyola Law to Century City to Santa Monica) is not bus friendly and I don't think that it will be any time soon.
