Anyone know if these still exist or if they have all been replaced by lofts. I am talking about the "wino hotels," as I am in desperate need of some cheap digs. Anyone have any experience with these?

No. I see them everytime I ride my bike near E.7th St near the LA River..

They need to be replaced, though; the holy trinity of crackheads, estranged Vietnam Vets and homeless people have made those places a disgrace to DT and LA.

How else do you want me to say it? Without derailing this thread, there's always an unusual, disproportionate amount of Vietnam Vets always cracked out or hopped up on some drug...rather unfortunate, I know.

How about "disadvantaged Vietnam veterans" or maybe "underprivileged"?

Our politically-correct society has created an almost-endless number of "nice" words to describe unpleasant situations.

I don't smoke crack, haven't fought in Vietnam and trying to keep from becoming homeless. My major moral and psychological transgression was the inability to keep my income in pace with the cost of living. So perhaps I am also deserving of some form of dehumanization for an apparent failure at life. But the bottom line is I need some super cheap digs and my options are dwindling.

Perhaps it will a temporary layover or my last stop on the way to hell. Used to avoid downtown but my favorite hangout is down there so maybe instead of a few times a month I can kick it there almost every night.

Thanks everyone!

There's rooms for rent on Craigslist too. Not SRO's but rooms in normal houses.
