I saw this article in the LA Times a couple of weeks ago. The Ennis house is for sale; the foundation that owns it has already spent a little over $6 million, and a new owner would have to pay $5-7 million to finish the restoration.

Interesting story, but then it was kind of absurd to see the Ennis House listed on Redfin along with all the other non-celebrity properties. Yes, I know, Redfin carries all the MLS listings, but buying the Ennis House through Redfin would kind of feel like buying a Gutenberg bible off of Amazon.

Downside: the house does not appear to have plasma screen TVs in the bathroom or kitchen. And according to "Cribs," all classy homes have these.

I suppose it's for the best. There've been no tours of the house for years because of the renovation, so the house has lost its public relations, so to speak. For fundraising it's a catch-22. The damage is pretty extensive--I mean, concrete blocks in earthquake country!--so I assign no blame for its closure, but the shame is that $10M is a relatively paltry sum. Here's hoping that the repairs are up to the level so that tours can begin again.
