Apparently, developers are planning to build a walkable mixed-use village in Porter Ranch with commercial and residential units. It appears similar to the Topanga Village project in Woodland Hills that will connect the two existing malls. What do you think of this project in Porter Ranch?

Thanks. To be honest, I'm more interested in the "walkable" commercial district they plan to build.

Anything's better than that big-box footprint right next to it. I wonder how well they'd co-exist so close to each other.

Apparently the new development is supposed to be "high end" for whatever its worth, as opposed to the nearby strip mall which is definitely not (Walmart, Toys-R-Us, fast food, etc).

Also, I heard that they will start building it later this year. Nothing is set in stone but some news is better than nothing.

That link doesn't seem to have much info...first time i'm hearing about this.

I think it would be great if there were a walkable Grove type place in the valley.

Of course there is Americana in Glendale ...and Glendale is in the SFV ..but that's pretty far from Porter Ranch.

The trend definately seems to be going towards more of these 'walkable' type of centers. Not really a huge fan of Americana or the Grove...but I think it's better and a more pleasant experience than a typical shopping center where you often need to drive from one store to another.
Lot's of centers like this in the Valley.

Will be interesting to see how this works.

Would be nice if this gets developed too.. A year and a half and still nothing..and that's just a year and a half since this article..

Plans for upscale Porter Ranch shopping center to be released

Update: it's happening. Plans are being released next week. Hopefully the development is the complete opposite of Walmartland across the street.
