Hey!

I'm in the interview process for a job at Children's Hospital LA, located on Sunset Blvd... Ideally I'd like to live close to the beach, so I've been looking into Long Beach/Huntington Beach area. I'm a single, girl in my mid 20's, and I only work 3 days/week, and would be working between the hours of 7pm and 7am. Is this a realistic commute/option?

Thanks!

Assuming starting at 7PM, you didn't say when you started (you won't be administering any medication as part of your job will you?), your commute from anywhere near a beach will be bad because you'd have to leave around 530PM.

See for yourself Sigalert.com Los Angeles Traffic Map

Now, if you were working 7AM to 7PM, then you would be leaving around 6AM and traffic isn't as bad or at 7PM either. But still the beach to the LACH neighborhood is such a long, indirect route by freeway or by streets.

What is your housing budget?

Do yourself a favor and don't live as far as Huntington/Long Beach. If anything, look into West LA or Santa Monica. You'll be close to the beach but not too far from work. You'll be going to work during evening rush hour, which is pretty bad (everywhere).

Redondo Beach is also a fun, hip area to live which is still in reasonable range from your work.
