I am not moving immediately but I'm thinking more long term. I currently live and work in the San Gabriel Valley (Irwindale/Monrovia area). I'm thinking of maybe (with a capital M) trying to move out of the San Gabriel Valley. I really enjoy the weather closer to the coast. I'm tired of the sweltering heat in the San Gabriel Valley in the summer.

I'm just wondering if you can all suggest an area to live where it would be cooler than the valley. We are in our upper 20s / lower 30s and looking for a place with things to do and not in a crime ridden/gang area. I really liked Pasadena so we may move back there but the heat is just unbearable in the summers.

I have an advantage with the commute because if I decide I don't want to drive to work my, they will pay for a vanpool which may not be the best since it would be a long commute but I wouldn't have to drive.

So I'm basically looking for the closest areas to us that would be doable and have a bit better summers than the San Gabriel Valley. The place we want might not exist but I thought I'd ask. When we do move we'd rent first. We could probably afford around $1,500/month give or take a bit for a one bedroom place.

I don't see a solution: Job in Monrovia area, desire cooler weather, non-insane commute. No solution.

To Monrovia? Even in a vanpool that is crazy.

Three choices:
1. Ask if you can telecommute
2. Move somewhere a little cooler such as La Mirada
3. Find a job closer to the coast

I agree with Charles that the commute would be too far even with a vanpool. You would spends hours and hours in LA traffic every day. Yuck!!

We have an engineer who decided he was moving to New Mexico. He informed us thart he would be more than happy to telecommute and planned to fly out often for meetings and other things. And even though the customer is the Gov't who normally doesn't go for this sort of thing they said yes. The reason it worked for him is because he does a great job and they didn't want to lose him. He planned to go either way and worked out a sweet telecommute deal. So now he can live virtually anywhere he likes.

I sort of figured there was no solution. Telecommuting is not an option at this point either. I guess my best bet is to get transferred to an area closer to the coast
