Hello!!

So I am starting school at Cal State Long Beach next month and my boyfriend just got a job working for the city of Burbank. We want to live somewhere where neither of us will have a huge commute (although we understand it can change day to day, hour by hour). We want a place that is safe and that we can find a nice one bedroom for under $1200. I have researched places like Bellflower, Paramount, Downey, but we dont think these places are too safe... do you know of somewhere that is perfect?

Thanks

the areas you mentioned are heavily latino. that may or may not be an issue for you, but i thought that i'd throw it out there. for a more diverse population, you may consider whittier.

You should live downtown. Both of you can use the subway.

That's not a bad idea (I would try it in her situation), but if she thinks Bellflower and Downey aren't safe I'm not sure she'd be willing to commute on the blue line

Hello! Welcome to CSULB, I just finished my first year there. Downtown seems like it could be an o.k. half-way point and should you choose to drive I'm assuming at least you will get to be driving against traffic to and from school. I've only been driving for a couple years however and my commute to CSULB is pretty easy (I live in Wilmington) so take what I said with a grain of salt as it's just a guess.

Downey's probably fine for you, but I'd agree that Whittier is someplace to look into. This listing makes no sense to me but if it's true I'd jump on it:

$1,100/mo 4Bed House, Whittier / Whittier, prime location 4 bedroom, House. Washer/Dryer Hookups! / Apartment Hunters, California (http://www.apartmenthunterz.com/details/80687181 - broken link)

A 4BR/3BA in Whittier for $1,100? Doesn't seem right... Still, luckily, at under $1,200 you've got a lot of housing to choose from in the Whittier area. You'd take the 605 into Long Beach and he'd take the 60 to downtown, then to Burbank.
