Go here: craigslist: los angeles classifieds for jobs, apartments, personals, for sale, services, community, and events

In the Housing section look around under "ROOMS/SHARED" there's lots of rooms for under $800. I don't know exactly where all the punks stay, I don't think there's really a specific area. I see them all over L.A. probably just wherever cheap rent is. Good luck!

i would do hollywood if i were you. i have seen lots of punks (usually homeless ones) on the redline and most seem to live in the area.

off the 101 there are some dumpy motels that probably will rent for around 800 a month.

"Curated by journalist and filmmaker Kristine McKenna, the show features more than 60 images of L.A.'s vibrant punk rock scene taken by Summa between 1978 and 1984, many of which appear in a book of the same name recently published by Foggy Notion Books and Smart Art Press.

'The Beautiful and the Damned' exhibition in Santa Monica, made up of Ann Summa's images from L.A.'s vibrant scene, stays away from the grubby."

there really isn't a centralized "scene" in los angeles that i know of. there is not much centralized in LA period- its sort of all spread out.
most of the punk scene that i have encountered in my years here was generally much younger, barely legal, DIY folk. especially in areas outside of LA.
i lived in venice two years. wouldn't call that a punk rock capitol. yeah, i know suicidal tendencies are from there, but its really more about surfing, hepsters, hippies and burners than it is punk rock.
if i were you, i would go onto myspace, find some los angeles based punk rock bands, and go to a few of their shows when you get here. they have the genres all separated on myspace so you can do a search by punk, by city, etc. that would probably yield alot more.
and trust me, you will not find a hotel for 800 a month. i have tried. best bet is to look on craigslist, even if you think you already have. people rent out their couches for like 400 a month, but you won't have your own room. it will work tho, in the meantime.

I''m guessing more OC than LA, but not positive.

I know Blue Cafe in Huntington Beach hosts punk bands. The Blue Cafe in Huntington Beach (http://www.bluecafelive.com/hb/hb.htm - broken link)

I also know I just saw a Motel 6 in Westminster(next city over from HB) advertising $239 weekly rates. It would work if you had a car. Dunno about credit requirements.
