Hi everyone,

I'm asking the LA board, because I'm guessing you're the most well travelled! I'm looking to find a condo in a ski resort area. I really want a nice year around area, some good restaurants, other activities besides skiing. I would like to stay in California. Mammoth? Tahoe? Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

If you want a quick escape, Big Bear is only 2 - 2.5 hours car drive away. The skiing isn't as nice as Tahoe but you can't really complain since its much closer. It makes for a nice weekend trip. There are several rental services that rent single standing cabins that are moderately priced. The restaurants are just ok -- not much of a night life compared to Tahoe and Mammoth.

I guess it just depends what you are looking for... I also have several friends who bought vacation homes in Truckee and have no regrets.

Mammoth is awesome and has great year round activities. Far enough fro LA but yet easy to get to in a day.

The whole Mammoth/June Lake area is fantastic for fishing, mountain bike riding, hiking, backpacking, and of course skiing. In summer we would take the gondola to the top and mountain bike down - really cheap too, I think it was around $15/day (back in the 1990s). You can trout fish year round just above Bishop at Gorge Road and Pleasant Valley Reservoir or you can have a lot of fun opening day of trout season at Convict Lake or Lake Sabrina.

So, with that, a condo up there would be usable all year.
