It looks like Bratton is doing the Bernie Kerik thing.

However, his attempt to say that L.A. was the safest it has been since the late 1950's thanks to his watch was laughable and the stats he cited were bogus. That episode kind of tarnished him in my eyes.

Jim McDonnell is from Boston, but he has been with the LAPD since the '80s. He's been the public face of the department under Bratton. Beck was promoted to deputy chief by Bratton.

Bratton himself wants the new chief to be from within the LAPD so this suggests that it will be done in house. I wonder about McDonnell in particular, the east coast background does help.

Hummm, something has happened for Bratton to announce he is leaving all of a sudden.

Do not know what it is about, however there is more to this than what is being reported.

Just wait and see!

Yes, I also liked Bratton, but again, the "sudden" great offer to go to NYC to a private concern is questionable in my opinion.

We do not need another Gates! Been there, done that

you know what, my support for bratton is slightly going down. i read in the paper today a peice that questioned the timing of the decree being lifted, the emergence of this security agency and brattons resignation.

interesting read.

all in all i think he has done a good job. but this new perspective does make me wonder if all these moves were orchestrated:

or it could just be another hollywood style conspiracy theory...
