Hi there,

I was just wondering if any of you can recommend a decent community college in LA.. I'm planning to look into various courses in Graphic design / visual comm.. or can you recommend a university (not too expensive) where I can look for the same.. my goal is to take classes with the intention of creating a portfolio (am already familiar with many of the tools.. but want to take a few advanced classes)

Thanks so much!

Pasadena City College (PCC) has a very respectable art department. They have a high rate of transfers to Art Center College of Design (also in Pasadena and very prestigious) as well as among the highest transfer rates to the University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU).

Santa Monica College (SMC) is the other premier L.A. area community college. They are number one in transfers to the UC system.

Caveats: I don't have firsthand experience with their programs. Also, California's budget crisis is exerting pain on public colleges and universities--for instance, I think some of the CSU's have closed fall enrollment. I hope this at least gives you a couple places to explore, or encourages someone else to contribute.

Good luck.
