Hi,

We are relocating to LA for my husband's new job which is located around 405 x 110 N.Torrance / N Carson area.

We are looking for a neighborhood that is good to raise a small family (we have an almost 2 yr old.
My husband wants to be able to commute in traffic max 1 hr each way.
We are looking for good schools
Looking for lively neighborhoods

We know that Torrance is a good neighborhood, but that is where my husband grew up and although we want to be close to his parents, we don't want to be THAT close :P

Is the Redondo beach area good to raise a young family?
I LOVE pasadena, but my husband believes it will be too much traffic for him to deal with. (his hrs are 8am to 5pm - peak hours!)

Sorry for rambling on, hope what I have written is not confusing. Any recommendations is greatly appreciated.

P.S. I am new to the US from Australia, so I have no clue about LA really.

Thanks in advance!

You could look to the east in Long Beach or Lakewood. There are plenty of urban and suburban neighborhoods there for families.

El Segundo WOULD be a good place, depending on the OP's definition of "lively neighborhood." Good schools, including pre-schools. Safe & walkable. Easy access to freeways. Not much of a nightlife, but only a 5-min drive to Manhattan Beach. 15-min drive to 405/110 interchange during rush hour since your DH will be driving opposite traffic.

Pasadena not only would be a long commute but they really do not have the best school system. I would say any of the beach communities, Redondo, Hermosa or Manhattan should be good as well as El Segundo. Of course it is hard to give advise, when you give no housing budget or what your interests are, like conservative/liberal: like sports or into quiet activities: beach type of people or prefer to be closer to the mountains?

Welcome to LA!
Toyota? Oil company?

Torrance has great schools as long as they are west of Western Ave.
Renting or buying? That choice can make a big difference in where you can afford to go.

Redondo is fine and near the beach with a boardwalk.
Manhattan Beach is fun also but, the closer to the water the higher the price per square foot. many homes there are 3 levels to take advantage of teh small lots.

El Segundo is nice also. The oil companies are all down in the South Bay and apparently have tried to be good neighbors with refinery-hiding landscaping, donations to parks, etc.

I am an ex Pasadena resident. It is marvelous and it would be a total hike for your husband. I assume you want to see him every day and that he wants to play with the little one.

An upscale area would be Rancho Palos Verdes. Or the Naples area of Long Beach.
More questions?
