Hello, I'm interested in working on the business side of the entertainment industry. I was wondering if Warner Music Group, Sony BMG and Universal were located in the LA area.

Warner Music Group's Los Angeles area operations are in the Pinnacle Building in Burbank off Olive at the 134.

Sony BMG's Los Angeles area office is in Beverly Hills at the intersection of Wilshire and Santa Monica.

Universal Music Group has its L.A. area location in Santa Monica at the Colorado/Cloverfield intersection.

Sony BMG closed up shop in LA. Sony's record label arm is NY and the publishing arm (BMG) was absorbed by Universal.

Universal has the above mentioned Santa Monica location, but the majority of their operations are in Universal City. They also have their publishing arm in West LA near the intersection of Sepulveda and Pico.

Warner is in Burbank as mentioned above and has their publishing arm based in West LA on Santa Monica Blvd. near Overland.

The other major label (EMI) is only represented by Capitol Records, which is located in Hollywood at the famous Capitol Records Building. They also have offices in the Miracle Mile area.

Walt Disney records is also cattered around the Burbank/Glendale area

Besides that, there are a number of other music related businesses here and many, many independent labels.

Thanks. I've noticed that Sony BMG, Universal, and Warner are all headquartered in NYC. I found that kind of interesting. That's why I was wondering if they had any offices in LA. I've always wanted to work in the marketing department of a record label, it's my dream job.

Check with the larger indie labels/second tier labels. The big shots left town for one reason or another, but LA is a hotbed for various labels that work in whats currently indie/underground(indie apparently being metal, prog rock, experimetal rock, etc).

For instance, Nuclear Blast is huge in the more or less currently underground metal scene, especially in Europe(where metal hasn't been buried yet), and their US office is out of Hawthorne.

Universal and Warner's parent company may be based out of NY, but their music operations are based out of LA almost exclusively. In fact, Universal recently closed up shop (as far as their music group goes) in NY and is now solely in LA.

As far a marketing goes, Universal, Warner and Disney will have those departments in LA and Sony and EMI will have their offices in NY. As for doing marketing for smaller labels, i'm not sure that those types of companies would have the budget (especially considering the current state of the economy) to hire on an entry level person. However, all of the labels offer internships, albeit for little to no pay.

Good luck!

Wouldn't you rather work in a field NOT on life support?

Sony BMG no longer exists as a company. The office you were reffering to though was Sony BMG music publishing (before the split) which was on Wilshire Blvd in Beverly Hills. When Sony and BMG split, Universal acquired BMG publishing and moved it to their offices in West LA.
