We are 4 middle aged guys coming from Miami and will be in town for 24 hours...

Going to Vegas first for football opening weekend then flying home from San Diego... Plan is Big Bear for a few days after Vegas to detox,,, LA for a day then San Diego for 2 days....

Right now we plan to;
  • Arrive in LA by noon
  • Stay – Beverly Hilton
  • Rodeo Drive area for lunch
  • Hollywood/Sunset strip – Walk and have a few drinks
  • Dodger game at 7pm – few innings just to check it out
  • Late dinner in West Hollywood near hotel – Any suggestions
  • Wake up and go to Venice beach for lunch
  • Drive PCH to San Diego
Does this work? Missing anything?

Sounds fun. Wish I could join you.

Big Bear for a few days and only one day in LA?

Factor traffic in to any driving, like from Venice to San Diego, might be best to leave that area closer to noon than closer to 2PM for example.

From Miami? USC would have beaten Florida for the National Championship last January.

One of our crew likes to hike - so we gave him some time in Big Bear - I am sure we can find a bar to relax on the lake...

On your advice we will have an early lunch in Venice so we can get heading south.. Thinking of happy hour in del mar and roll into Mission Bay SD by 6pm..

And if USC would have taken care of Oregon we would have found out

Every year USC loses to a sub 500 team like UCLA, Oregon State, Stanford...it's killed them...they could have had two or three more titles (and if they had stopped Vince Young, another one.)

Familiarize yourself with this great tool:

Sigalert.com Los Angeles Traffic Map so you can see where the traffic is bad and when it is bad.

Nice places to fish in Big Bear too.

Tell your hiking friend to be very careful of big time thunderstorms which hit the San Bernardino Mountains (Big Bear area) around 2 or 3 PM this time of the year. Coming from Miami, you know thunderstorms but a lot of people don't think of them but they are for real up in those mountains.

I might live in NWA but my heart is still on the campus of USC> this year we can hope for the best!!!!

To the OP,

I think you have squeezed about as much in as you can. It sounds like a fun day, if you had an extra day I would add a few things. Enjoy your stay, The Beverly Hilton is an awesome hotel.

AHH, loves it!

You guys should definitely go to Katsuya in Hollywood, Mexico in West Hollywood, or Baby Blues BBQ..authentic Carolina BBQ..LOVE it.

Go up to Griffith Park and Griffith Observatory. Go to Malibu, go to Venice, Santa Monica. Go have drinks at R Bar in Koreatown. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

You're missing lots but you have a good plan for just 24 hours. You can't really cram much more into it. I suggest Lawry's for your meal in west hollywood. Good prime rib.
