I'm not in CA, but my son's friend is. He sent us a photo he took at an LA Best Buy, showing that they charge for parking. $10.00 for 15 minutes, and a max charge of $50.00. Is he pulling our legs, or do you actually have to pay to shop?

many places charge to park, even best buys (the west hollywood and westwood locations come to mind). however, most (if not all) will validate your parking 100% with a minimum purchase. the rates you mentioned seem very high, so i'm not sure if he is telling the truth or not.

He's pulling your leg. Retail business with the square footage the likes of Best Buys, Markets, etc. are required to have allocated free parking spaces as well as a certain number of handicapped spaces.

It seems unlikely that any retail establishment would charge that much. I can't imagine anywhere in Los Angeles that is $50/day to park. Where was this?

He probably parked in some nearby parking garage and walked to bestbuy. No way they charge that much.

There are many places in LA where you do have to pay to park to shop (sometimes the first hour is free, or it can be validated), but even if the parking fees are real (which sound extremely high) it's almost certainly not a Best Buy-exclusive parking lot.

Thanks for the replies. He sent a picture of a Best Buy sign, and just below it, were the parking rates. He said he wanted to go in to buy new head phones but couldn't afford the parking fees. All I know of his location is that he was on vacation in the LA area. It just didn't make any sense to me that anyone would have to pay to shop, anywhere.
