Hi,
We may be moving to Calabasas and so I'm wondering what you can tell me about the city. We are a family of 4 with 2 young kids. My husband will be working in Calabasas with a salary of close to 200k-- I'm interested in knowing what sort of people live there, is it safe, the schools, is it a friendly area, is it educated....what other city would you recommend for us to look into.

thanks

You're supposed to do a little research first like checking the main City Data website which has all sort of demographic information.

//www.city-data.com/city/Calabasas-California.html

Also you can check some of the educational websites which have school scores.

"Please avoid open-ended requests like "I'm moving to your city, tell me EVERYTHING I need to know.""

from the Forum Rules:

Renting or buying? What is your budget?
Besides your husband, will you be working? Where?

Other cities to consider:
Agoura Hills
Thousand Oaks
Oak Park
Westlake Village

Calabasas has a very good reputation in all regards to education and safety and community livability.

I put together a toolkit for house hunters:

Charles listed the cities I would also check, basically from Calabasas west to Thousand Oaks. If the job is on the west side of Calabasas (west of Las Virgenes), I would definitely look from there west. The east side of Calabasas is very crowded.

I'm sorry. I appreciate your time, but don't bother responding to this post being that I got the name of the city wrong. It's Carlsbad not Calabasas. Again I apologize.

Work the San Diego forum.

A lot of people like Encinitas, Solano Beach, and Carlsbad itself.

If you want a little more house and don't mind newer subdivisions with Mello Roos and HOAs, consider Poway, Rancho Bernardo, and the Carmel Valley. We looked at the 4S Ranch area - cookie cutter yes, but loads of amenities, lots of kids, excellent schools, and squeaky clean.

Use the same tools.

Thousand Oaks to Carlsbad is one heck of a commute!
