hey,
I am a hairdresser and make up artist from germany. I became a hairdresser in germany and worked for 8 years in a salon and as a freelancer in germany. I am about to move to LA and was wondering if anybody knows how the hair license works. Do I need to take all hours ? Or do I just have to take the exams, for as I said, I already know what I'm doing
I know I can get the info at the department of consumer affairs and i will, but i wanted to see if i can get any information before that.
thanks in advance

California is one of the strictest states in the country when it comes to getting your hairdressing license. I believe you have to get 1600 hours under your belt and also have to pass a written as well as technical exam. Contact the cosmetology department at Santa Monica College and they can tell you more accurate answers--they have one of the highest rates of students passing the exam in the state (97% I believe) SMC's Cosmetology Department (http://www.smc.edu/Cosmetology/ - broken link) or email the department chair at hledonne@smc.edu
