Hello all...

I am accepting a job for the summer in Alhambra and am looking to find a sublease. I am 22, a college student at Ohio State, and would like to find an appartment that i can ride my bike to work. I am also looking to be in an area of close proximity to night life?!

Any recommendations on housing areas?

Also, if anyone has any good info on public transit/ bicycle commuting, that would be MUCH appreciated!!!

It will be difficult for you to find temporary housing (if your job is summer limited) in Alhambra. Since you are from Ohio let me tell you about the area.

Alhambra has a very large population of Asian-Pacific Islandlers and Latinos, there are Caucasians but they are decreasing in number. Alhambra is split into two zip codes 91801 and 91803. It is NOT bicylce friendly. The major streets are narrow, traffic is dense, and there are alot of Tractor-Trailers on the roads. If you bicycle, I would do it on the sidewalk and NOT the street.

For nightlife, you are 10 minutes away from Old Town Pasadena, with abundant night life, shopping and an urban, upscale feel. You can also head West to Hollywood/West LA (about 30 minutes at night without traffic).

Alhambra is not served by a light rail system. Only buses.

These are nearby cities you may want to consider: Monterey Park, Rosemead, Temple City, Pasadena, South Pasadena, Highland Park (Los Angeles 90042) or CSULA Area (Los Angeles 90032). Housing costs are very high in this area, see what you can afford or look for a room to rent on craigslist or the pennysaver.

call bryant companies in south pasadena, ca on fair oaks ave. it just occurred to me that they have many, many listings in the pasadena and alhambra area. but be cautioned that some are undesirable section 8 rentals, so ask before you rent.

Make sure you look on Craigslist too, it's got the best deals. There are a ton of rentals in Pasadena right now...and it's a sensational place to live. You won't be bored.
