I was thinking about this the other day, even though I was born in `86 thus I didn't really experience much in the 80's, I always thought LA was probably one of the more fun cities to be in during that era. Probably doesn't help from all the movies/tv shows that influenced my mind.

In particular, while overall, the US was a very late / partial adopter of the whole Euro new wave / synth pop / hard core punk / Oi! music / etc scene, there were basically two places in the US that were early adopters. They were SoCal and NYC.

Even in SF, there was nothing like KROQ, 91X or even KNAC, until very late in the 80s (~ 86, when Live 105 got started).

Venue wise, So Cal was excellent. So many shows of both globally and locally known bands.

I am very fortunate to have been in the Southland during the 80s. My life was made better, richer and more satisfying by it.
