I am being relocated to Long Beach from NYC. I would like to stay in LB or as close as possible (working downtown)- a long commute is not for me. I am a 30-yr-old woman, so safety is a concern and issue. I know already that downtown or along the beach-line are the best places to look, but I am still struggling as the neighborhood names are foreign to me and the listings on Craigslist seem very sparse. Once I begin looking outside the city, I get even more overwhelmed.

I did see one or two listings around Falcon & 1st Avenue. Is this area nice? It mentions the arts district close by? Can anyone give me any advice? I'm (literally) lost.

Belmont Shore would be a good start. Arts District(or East Arts District, since it's east of downtown) is alright, but not the best. Naples is more quiet than Belmont Shore, but otherwise similar. Downtown is Downtown(also called potentially Shoreline Village, Rainbow Harbor, or The Pike).

1st street(not ave) and Falcon should be excellent. Right near Bluff Park, nice neighborhood, etc. Biggest problem in that area is parking. That area would probably be considered part of the Arts District

This map is pretty decent at showing the different neighborhoods.

Thank you so much. I did mean to type 1st STREET, not Avenue. That is very helpful!

I'd go with belmont shore, belmont park, belmont heights or naples.
