I am going to be moving to the LA area for only a few months and I'm looking for some affordable housing - about 1500 a month. I only need a small 1 bedroom or studio apt that is in a relatively nice, but definitely safe area. I will be working in Long Beach.

Are the areas in Torrance nice? I have heard that you need to stay West of Western, but what about the area around the Del Amo Fashion Center? Since I will also have to travel into Long Beach for work. Is it a problem to drive through West Carson, and Carson?

I have also been looking in the Huntington Beach area. How are the areas that are north and near the Naval Weapons Station? It almost seemed to be in westminster. (along bolsa chica rd)

The other option I was looking into was in Long Beach. I have heard mixed reviews of long beach. I have checked out a few options that are listed in Artcraft Manor that were decently priced. I know this is near 405 and wondered if it was a good area of Long Beach.

Thanks for the help.

torrance and huntington will be about a half hour commute from LB. if i were you, i would just live in LB and enjoy the short commute. if you're looking for fun, lively areas then check out the downtown area or belmont shore. if going out isn't so much your thing, there are plenty of nice neighborhoods on the eastside of the city, especially within a few miles of the university.
