I agree - El -segundo is really nice. It's like a little Mid Western town. But it's mainly homes, not too many appartments so it might be hard to find anything to rent. Otherwise it's great and close to the south beaches.

I'd go with El Segundo and a rental house. Alot of real cute "old town pasadena type" that are small and affordable. Some are fixers if you are lookin to buy. If you spend all your cash on rent you will end up eating alot at El Tarascos which is a great Mex Restaurant on Main past Grand.

If you're lookin for night life you'll end up in Manhattan Beach anyway so don't look for an apt there, save your cash...for a night life !

Anywhere else is real $$$ to rent, lease or purchase, and you have to hit Sepulveda to get to LAX area employment ,and, you are looking at gridlock pretty much 24/7.

I love the area.
Enjoy !

Is it still mostly White? I can't find any racial data on El Segundo. Manhattan Beach is still mostly White and it's a very safe looking little place.

i have a friend who rents a studio apartment for 850 a month including utilites-that's rare tho. he just moved out of a one bed for 950 + utilities but most now are about 1250 for a one bed.

extremely safe. people walking around at all times of day and night. farmer's market every thursday. shuttle service to lovely el porto beach best beach in south bay for miles)

playa del rey has archstone apartments which are fantastic. many condos in the area also.

id go for el segudno first then playa

any tips on where to look for rental information? I've been checking on rent.com and craigslist but haven't really found anything yet.

Westside Rentals and Craigslist are the most popular for finding rentals. Westchester is the area right at the top of the hill surrounding Loyola Marymount. This is a great area!
