Winter in LA is when the leaves on the trees actually start to change colors and you have to rake your yard (assuming you do your own yard work).

Good point. When the orange blossoms flower the aroma is heavenly on a winter night. We have brugmansia flowers in the back yard that put out a great scent at night & don't seem like "winter" any place except the subtropics.

It can get as cold as 45 degrees in the early morning in the winter. It actually snowed in the Agoura/Westlake area in 2007 out of the blue. You can smell fireplaces in the winter which I love. It's the biggest change of weather which is why I like it.

When the Santa Ana winds finally stop, and the barren hillsides aren't smoldering anymore.

I always wish for rain on Christmas, but I'm not hoping for a deluge this year, please! The foothills of the San Gabriels have already seen some mudslides.

I know it's winter in LA when beach goers become sparse. If you head out to any SoCal beach and can easily find a parking space, then........it's winter, baby!

Winter has come to L.A. when it's 75 degrees in February. It's minus 17 in Chicago and there's three feet of snow on the ground in Buffalo. We've got the top down on the convertible. THAT'S winter in L.A.
