I have a friend with 8 years of IT experience that has been unemployed since February. That is all I can comment on.

Terrible. My husband works in the field (10+ years experience), and his position was relocated and the other local LA area IT staff laid off. We've looked into trying to move back, but jobs are scarce right now. You could get lucky, but there are a LOT of unemployed IT people out there looking for work right now, so competition is stiff for the open positions.

Really? When I go to careerbuilder and search for IT in Los Angeles I see pages and pages of jobs. What area are you looking for? Network, programming, help desk?

Not saying that the market is great but my brother in law was able to land 2 jobs during this recession after being laid off.

when I said search I meant that I searched the forums for info about this subject. I can do a little bit of everything except programming and printers. my strengths are in hardware repair and building computers, and also software problems and peripherals. working IT onsite for a medium sized office and/or traveling to other offices I think would be good for me. That way I can probably get some printer experience and most importantly I don't have to answer a phone all day doing help desk.

thanks for the info guys, please keep it coming.
