L.A. might restrict music performers at Venice boardwalk | L.A. NOW | Los Angeles Times

I've went to the broadwalk for years since its well known for its music and culture. Now they're changing the laws there, like anywhere in the city. What do you think of this?

Los Angeles is sure getting stricter everyday.

Seems pretty dumb to me. The boardwalk is a hub for tourism. I heard a lot of complaints came from people moving within 100 yds of the boardwalk and complaining about the noise/drum-circle. I know I might sound like a jerk saying this, but Venice is Venice, and the whole freak scene has been a part of that community before the yuppies started to move in. If they don't like it they have nice options in other parts of town.

the restrictions seem reasonable to me. the performers only perform when there is money to be made, which is when tourists are in the area. the tourists are all gone by the time it gets dark. even the drum circle guys rarely go beyond sundown, as it just gets too dark out on the beach to see anything. i don't think the city is trying to control the boardwalk and its appeal so much as control random obnoxious vagrants who are strung out in the wee hours of the morning.

as for this borstrom fellow, unless he moved to venice before the 1950s he has no room to complain. as far as i understand, the boardwalk hasn't changed much in decades. this guy reminds of people who move close to airports for discounted real estate prices then complain about the noise after settling in. Gimme a break!
