How are you going to have a three year old in a one bedroom apartment?

The kid sleeps in the bedroom and mom sleeps in the living room or vice versa.

Both are very reputable law schools. It's not all that easy to get accepted to a good law school.

There are sufficient reasonable areas within OP's price range, but all require a commute at rush hour. Like others said, OP needs come to LA so she understands what she is dealing with. Alhambra and South Pasadena will be closest of the decent neighborhoods with good schools and neither is unreasonable.
