I don't want to live anywhere where I have to get permission from a gang to do anything.

South central - nice looking neighborhood by day... scary as all hell at night. I saw a helicopter and 2 robberies being wrapped up by the police, the one time I had to go there. My stupid passenger left my back door open so I had to get out of my car and close it. I was so scared I hit the curb, lol.

How can we take back the inner cities and make them "safe"? Is it too late to improve things there?

People are saying that since it's not as run down as ghettoes in other major cities of the U.S. that it doesn't look like a ghetto. Those of us who live here know better. I know this is going to sound a bit ridiculous but weather has a lot to do with it. We don't have snow or heavy rains or humid heat here so buildings and streets are easier to preserve even when they are negelected. But I have worked in the alleys behind those streets and I can tell you that what you don't see in the streets is in those alleys. Graffitti, trash, homeless people, drug paraphernalia, dead animals, stray dogs wondering around, you name it.

There's also the pitbulls in the front and back yards. I'm talking mean pitbulls that have been trained to fight. It looks nice during the day but that's because everyone that is usually out at night with trouble in mind and causing a ruccus is asleep during the day.

Ha. I can't believe people are defending Compton as a city that really "isn't that bad". Heck yeah it is. Compton is one of the few places in LA where you can get a SFR for under $200,000. There's a reason for that. It's a gang paradise, with lots of black and latino gangs running drug trade all over the streets and getting into turf wars. Not to mention that MS13 has a presence in the city.

Don't wear the wrong colors in Compton either. Also, don't be white in Compton either or they might shank or cap you. lol I'm not kidding. That's another big reason I've never gone near Compton
