My boyfriends sister was just signed with a modeling agency Wilhelmina In NYC an LA and they want her to move to LA to build up her book.

She is 30 yrs old and has a budget for rent of $800 and would prefer a one bed over a studio IF possible.

She would love to find a place in Studio City or Burbank, but I think her budget is a issue.

I was wondering is there a UP and Coming trendy area that are about to take off as the next IT city to live in, in LA that would be fun, vibrant and safe?

any location ideas would be appreciated.

Good luck to her, $800 a month isn't much even for a Studio but it can be done. They want her to move, are they paying any part of this, are they going to guarantee her jobs, I would be a little leary especially at 30 years old. The competition is fierce.

She is a Commercial model....not a fashion model. She is already with Wilhelmina in NYC, Ford in Chicago. think she is signed with about 50 plus agents worldwide....etc They dont pay for you to relocate they TELL you where the work market for your area of maketing is and suggest that you move there to go on gosees etc.

HowToModel.com :: Chapter One: What Is Commercial Modeling? this will explain what commercial modeling is vs. other types of models xo

back to my quetion do you know of any hip trendy areas where she can find a place for this amount ?

I think it's going to be tough to find "fun, vibrant, and safe," and all for $800/month; a lot of the potential "it" spots are more transitional, safety-wise, so I think it also depends on what her definition of safe.

I think she'll have the easiest time either renting a room or finding a roommate, or be willing to compromise a bit on neighborhood. Maybe her agency knows of some other models in similar positions who would be open to sharing?

Burbank does have a few studios listed on Craigslist for under $800; I would definitely not take anything at that price range without checking it out in person first, though, even if it means spending some time in a hotel once she actually arrives. And if she finds something she does like be ready to fill out an application on the spot; while rentals are slowing down, I would work under the assumption that something decent for that price is still going to be snapped up quickly.

I checked a well-known real estate website. (I can dm you the site if you don't know it.)

First I checked Los Angeles itself. For $608, you can rent an empty piece of land.
For $750, there's a 1/1 in El Sereno.
For $800, a 1/1 in East Los Angeles or a 1/1 in SW Los Angeles.
That was it.

Then surrounding areas:
There were several others, but here is a sampling:
Cerritos, $600, 2/1.5
Whittier, studio, $730
Altadena, a room with shared bath, $675

And probably the best, Burbank, room with shared bath, $700

So it is possible to find a place for that price. But - although I don't know the neighborhoods, I'm pretty sure most of them are not particularly fun, vibrant, trendy, hip, and safe. Maybe one or two of those qualities, at most.

Another thing for her to be aware of is that rentals do not always include refrigerator and stove (some do).

You know what, for 800 bucks I would not even be looking for an apartment, it's not enough unless you want to live in places like Watts. For 800 bucks to spend, I would be renting a large room, in a nice house, in a nice neighborhood somewhere in the hills of LA.

As far as N Hollywood, I have been there a few times but not enough to give you good advice, except for, it seems to be a congested place to live.

Just to let you know, I seen quite a few places where you have your own separate entrance and so forth. So I wouldn't knock it until you at least take a look.

It's amazing what some people do to their homes/garage to make extra money. Some people convert rooms into makeshift studio apartments and it's too your benefit because the homes I have seen were in NICE areas.

Just my 2 cents...
