Hi we just moved from NYC to LA. We're looking for a pediatrician for our 8 months old daughter for her 9 month checkup next month.

We're near Hacienda Heights/Rowland Heights but generally anywhere within the SGV area will do just fine.

I do like to say though, that for our next pediatrician we prefer having someone with smaller practice, doesn't have to be a big name, but do listen to and value what the parents have to say. Our last pediatrician in NY was quite high profiled, every time we had the well-visits, it was always a different doctor. We had to repeat the history/symptom/questions about our child over and over again since you got a new person each time. And the revolving door of high volume patients meant we only got less than 10 mins with the doctor, which to us isn't what a pediatrician should be about.

Any recommendation will be much appreciated, thank you.

I highly recommend Rose City Pediatrics in Pasadena (located right next to Huntington Hospital); many people recommended them to us when our baby was born, including a lot of hospital staff. Several friends also used them and loved them. During our 1 1/2 years there we almost exclusively saw Dr. Wang, other than one sick visit where she wasn't available. I've heard great things about all the doctors, though. They're a busy practice, but I never felt rushed in our appointments. We had a fair number of issues that first year (including a hospitalization) and were very happy with our Rose City experiences. We'd be there still if we hadn't moved.

Thank you so much for the recommendation, uptown_urbanist. I'll definitely look into the information and hopefully call to find out they do accept new patients.

Thanks again.

While waiting to get a hold on the doctor in Pasadena, anyone has a good pediatrician to recommend in Hacienda Heights/Rowland Heights as a backup? Thanks.

I wish I had advice on something closer (and hope someone else out there can answer that for you), but to follow up on the Rose City thing (or any other local pediatrician, for that matter); one piece of advice that worked for us when we moved was to tell them immediately when I called that we had just moved to the area. Our current pediatrician wasn't technically accepting new patients, but he made room for us. I don't know what the doctors out there have to say about this, but the theory is that they're more willing to take a patient who is new because they're new to town than a new patient who is pediatrician-hopping locally.

Thank you again, You have been very kind and helpful in offering your perspective as we're indeed new in this. (in both LA and both being parents.)

I am sure we can definitely use your suggestion/advice later on as I probably need to make more threads asking the local savants questions!

Dr. George Madanat/Dr. Praful Shah, who split their days between their San Dimas and Diamond Bar offices. They saw both our kids for well over 18 years.
