Ok so me and my friend both want to travel. And really both want to visit LA. We currently live in a small town in England. And yea it's. What would we have to do if we just wanted to visit for a year or so.. or maybe move?

Any Ideas on how to get started?

Of course we'd both have to be financially stable first. We both currently have stable jobs.. with good enough pay to get saving. So it wouldn't be until we're about 21.. 22. But we want to get started early just incase it takes a while.

All advice would be appreciated. :-D

Set a goal for 2012. If you want to live and work in LA for one year, you and you friend should probably save up about $10000. in order to set yourselves up in an apartment and buy a cheap used car (put aside enough money to get home). You can't get around LA without a car, and I don't know what sort of work you do, but it might take you awhile to find a job.
Have your passports in order and whatever you need from the gov't to be permitted to work here. The time to have an adventure is when you are young, so I hope you get to do it.

Yes, you CAN get around LA without a car. It doesn't work for everyone, but many, many, many people do it every day.

The visa and job issue is a different one. I think you'll have a tough time with that; it's not so easy to get a work visa. Right now it's not so easy to get a job, even for those who are American citizens or who already have visas.

I'd save a lot of money, figure out if there's any way you can do freelance work that can be done from anywhere in the world, or maybe downsize to just coming for an extended vacation. On the other hand, who knows: maybe the economy will be much better in three years, and you'll have a much easier time on the work front. Might as well save money anyway, though.

You might try out couchsurfing (google it!). If you help out some travellers now in England, you could build a reputation so that couchsurfers would be more willing to help you out when you get here.

even if you have enough money saved before you turn 21, keep saving until you are 21. LA won't be nearly as interesting to you if you aren't of legal drinking age here in the US.

Visiting and working in the United States are 2 different things. If you just want to visit you can stay for 3 months I think, I am not sure. If you want to work you have to have a work visa. The best thing for you to do is talk to the US Embassy in UK.

Good luck, it is fun to be young and have dreams.
