national weather service long beach tornado - Google Search

And how about that lightning and thunder?!

Official Warning: http://www.weather.gov/alerts/ca.htm...XTORLOX.203600
Quote:
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
IF YOU ARE CAUGHT OUTSIDE...SEEK SHELTER IN A NEARBY REINFORCED
BUILDING. AS A LAST RESORT...SEEK SHELTER IN A CULVERT...DITCH OR LOW
SPOT AND COVER YOUR HEAD WITH YOUR HANDS.
Having grown up in tornado territory, I'm familiar with what to do, but I'm guessing most Angeleans aren't. Since there aren't "basements" in the homes out here, another safe(r) place is an interior room, particularly a bathroom without windows.

Stay safe everyone!!!

Sunset Beach was hit somewhat. Car flipped and a roof torn off a house a few hundred yards from there. Looked like it never really touched down on the ground, but it passed over Seal Beach and Sunset before heading south

I remember very clearly the tornado that hit L.A. in March 1983. There were monumental rainstorms that week. The parking lot at Queen of Angels Hospital collapsed down onto the Hollywood Freeway that morning. An F2 tornado hit on March 1. It did some damage to the L.A. Convention Center and moved south for a few miles. I remember hearing about it and learning that it struck on my grandparents' block. I dashed over there to check on them (going through unmanned barricades and debris fields along the way). The neighborhood looked like it had been bombed...phone poles splintered and broken like toothpicks, power lines lying in the street. The entire west-facing wall of a multi-story apartment building at Broadway & Santa Barbara (Now Martin Luther King Blvd.) was completely gone and you could see into everyone's apartment. Really weird. The building was torn down a few months later.

So yes, Los Angeles does get an occasional tornado.

Los Angeles is no stranger to tornadoes, back in the early 90's there were a series of tornadoes that hit my neighborhood. I lived in East Los Angeles in El Sereno and we had a series of tornados that hit and bent the billboards like twigs and tore down power lines and broke windows. Nothing New...

At the time, the hospital parking lot was at the top of the embankment above the Hollywood Freeway. If you looked up as you drove past you could actually see dome cars parked in the lot. I thought that Queen of Angels closed many many years ago, or relocated to the site of some other hospital that was about to close, or was bought out.
