i just couldn't resist replying. Iworked in the Chevron on this corner in the summer of 1981! I'm Irish and i spent two years in Palisades from '81--83 and this was my first job. I've just returned today to Europe from a revisit to all my old haunts and was searching for a photo of the old filling station. I cant believe it, it looked just like this in '81, as did Gladstones, across the street. It was amazing to go back. The Chevron was owned by a WWii vet called Bud Wynkoop and managed by a chap called Jeff. It also had a car repair service. I sawSally Field there once. Fun times, thanks, so much for posting the pic. Patrick

Default i worked in that gas station!

I've just discovered your request whilst I was looking for old photos of this junction. I was amazed to see this picture. I worked in this Chevron from June to October 1981. I was visiting on a student work visa from Ireland, but I managed to extend it and stayed until 1983, studying in Pepperdine and working in Vendome, Malibu. Anyone remember Vendome? It's now Colony Liquors. Let me know too if you have any pics of Bud's Chevron.

The station looked just like this in 1981 and was owned by Bud Wynkoop. The manager was Jeff Hoyt. It had self service and full service bays and a repair shop. We used to get quite a few celebs at that time. Gladstones looked then just like it does in the pic. I went back to visit in 2013 and the building had long gone, but there is still a gas station, now a Shell.

Happy Days! Paddy.

Gladstones Restaurant is in place of the burger stand now... Its the intersection of PCH and SUNSET BLVD in Pacific Palisades by Will Rogers Beach near a few miles away from Topanga Canyon and Malibu. It's before my time but I recognize the physical features of the area because I'm from around there (Topanga).
