hey all, I'm back working in santa monica after being away for 8 years or so and now the homeless situation there is crazy. They're all over the place, couple of guys from work have been punched randomly walking down the street. Is that just the way it is in Santa Monica now? I can't see how they think that helps people to just have them sitting around the city all day.

Also, no one with family I've talked to at work would ever consider moving there. Wonder how bad it will have to get until it gets cleaned up?

Something about the economy, police resources, and where homeless go in the winter.

A friends business since the late 90s in SM has always been surrounded by homeless(living in the alley behind it, sleeping under the overhang, etc). I don't know if things have gotten worse, but it was already bad enough as far as I care.

The homeless are more in the common areas where tourists and crowds go such as along the beach/bike path, pier and the 3rd Street Promenade and surrounding area (mid-city). They're not really a problem in the more residential areas.

I work around here as well and only see this problem in the downtown areas. The rest of Santa Monica is very desirable actually... Rents are VERY high several co-workers live here. Me? I live in North Hills in the valley =D

One thing I've learned is that the homeless love rich people. As long as they're being fed, they'll keep hanging around. I've met some that make $1000 a day, panhandling.

No isht. If worse comes to worse...might want to look into it. They do better than the average employee who's giving them money, that's for sure.
